Making Monte Cristo is a documentary out to capture a process on film. A writer prepares a script. Eventually (and hopefully) he gives his work to a company of actors. In the first production especially, those original actors give their own creative feedback and (again, hopefully) the script improves.
What this film records is that very process. The script is based on The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. Over the course of several days a company of actors will work together on camera to finding the strengths and weaknesses in this screenplay. By working with the writer, they will help firm up the soft spots. In other words, their creative imput will improve the script's quality!
Filming will take place in late April and in May, 1999 in the San Francisco Bay Area. Principal photography will take five days. At least five actors and five actresses (ages between 20 and 50) are needed. Payment will consist of meals plus a small daily stipend (probably twenty dollars per day). Only a few staff positions are open. Part-timers will receive the same payment as the cast. Full-time staff will receive an extra bonus, the amount as yet to be determined. But please feel free to contact us...
